Avencia are partnered with a leading International Insurer who are looking for an Underwriter to join the Professional Lines team.


They cover all traditional risks across the UK, US and internally. They offer a clear development pathway and you would work with a collaborative team.


Open to applicants who have experience in Underwriting or who have experience in Professional Indemnity Claims or Risk and Compliance at a law firm.


The role


Be part of developing a profitable book of business in-line with underwriting strategy for Large US and International Lawyers', Construction and Accountants' business through:


  • Underwriting the renewal and new business accounts - in accordance with the underwriting guidelines and business plan,

  • Assist in the development and growth of the portfolio,

  • Providing administrative support for renewal and new business accounts, and;

  • Active broker and client relationship development through quality service, sharing of industry knowledge.

Key accountabilities


  • Underwriting all Professional Lines accounts - Underwrite, review, process, and service, profitable renewal and prospect business accounts in line with the jobholder's Underwriting Authority, the business plan, and all underwriting rules and guidelines.

  • Day to Day Administration of Accounts Underwriting.

  • Liaison role between Claims, Actuarial and Underwriting teams - Enable claims to be at forefront of discussion with clients and brokers. Provide underwriting guidance to claims and assist claims in delivering key messages to client where appropriate.

  • Broker relationship function - develop strong, long-term relationships with retail and wholesale brokers and our mutual clients to profitably grow a book of business and provide excellent customer service.

  • Project related work e.g. Actuarial tool development.

Skills & experience


  • Proven track record of problem solving through negotiation and influencing

  • Intermediate MS Office skills - Outlook, Excel, Word, & PowerPoint.

  • Proficient working knowledge of relevant IT-systems
